Chao, Bobby K., is the Chairman of the Board of DragonVenture, Inc. since 1999.
DragonVenture has been one of the first few venture capital investment and incubation firms that advocate the significance of doing businesses in China. The Company has raised and managed DragonFund I, II and III. It has a total of 14 companies on its portfolio at one time and three of them became liquid through acquisitions by Cadence (CDN), Synopsys (SNPS) and Avocent (AVCT).
In 1998, Mr. Chao was the founding member and General Partner of Technology Associates Management Co., Ltd. (TAMC), the managing company of TechGains I and TechGains II funds that was raised and under management. Between 1993 and 1998, Mr. Chao joined Umax when Umax acquired Ocron, Inc. He had the position as the Senior Vice President of Corporate Marketing. In 1989, Mr. Chao founded Ocron, Inc. and was the Chairman and CEO. Ocron is a software company with its expertise initially in Optical Characters Recognition (OCR). In 1983, Mr. Chao was one of the original five founding members of ECAD, Inc., the predecessor of today’s Cadence Design Systems. Mr. Chao also worked through corporate life between 1978 and 1983 at Control Data Corporation and National Semiconductors.
Mr. Chao received his B.S. in Physics from Chung Yuan University in Taiwan in 1971. After the 2-year service as a navy officer, he came to the U.S. and received his M.S. in Physics from Georgia State University in 1975. He then received another M.S. in Aeronautical Engineering at Stanford University in 1977. |
